Community Volunteers

Give back to the community

Community Volunteers get the opportunity to support our patients and families in their own homes, providing a valuable few hours a week of companionship with a patient, allowing families and carers a well – earned break.

The Community Volunteering Service is already showing the positive impact and difference it is making to our patients and families in our area. It is extremely rewarding to watch our steadily increasing team of Community Volunteers, growing in confidence and realising how valuable support their support is.

For more information and an informal chat, contact our Volunteer Co-Ordinators, Deb Howarth or Lynn Warrington on 01706 752 360 Ext. 230, email volunteer@springhill.org.uk or fill in an application form.  Return your completed form to Volunteer Co-Ordinator, Springhill Hospice, Broad Lane, Rochdale, OL16 4PZ

Community Volunteer Feedback

Jasmine ‘I feel impressed and proud of what I have achieved.’

Debbie ‘I will never forget visiting my first lady and how it made me feel. Blessed to be able to give my time to reassure, care, listen and smile to somebody in need, knowing I have made a gloomy day shine to someone else and also myself. Community volunteering is truly rewarding and has given me a new self-confidence and a sense of worth.’

Glen ‘When I applied to become a Community Volunteer for Springhill Hospice, I went on the Induction course and was amazed at how thoughtful, informative and caring staff were that I came in to contact with. I am even more amazed that once I came on board as a Community Volunteer, how this support continues and how special they make me feel every step of the way. At no point do I ever feel isolated or unattached to the Hospice; the support network you give is outstanding. I am made to feel part of this exceptional group of people and I am fully aware that if I ever any queries or need any guidance or moral support, it is there in an instance, which in turn gives me great confidence to be able to go out and visit the family I am assigned to.’

 Patient and Family Feedback:

Harry & Barbara ‘My husband has benefitted from using various services at Springhill Hospice, which always has the aura of calm, along with smiling and compassionate staff. Nothing is too much trouble. More recently, we have used the wonderful Community Volunteer Service, which we have both benefitted from.’

Marie, Denise & Family ‘Hi, my name is Denise. I would like to thank the Springhill Hospice Community Volunteering Service for all the help and support that is on – going for my Mum. Mum is now in a Residential Home, though on a regular basis still has the full support of Community Volunteer and Specialist Palliative Care Nurse Visits, which she welcomes and looks forward to. Without their support, my mum and our family could not carry on as we have been able to. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.’

John & Sharon ‘Our Community Volunteer Glen has been smashing. He has turned up every week and I know my husband John genuinely looks forward to his visits. They get on really well and always have plenty to talk about, as well as having a laugh. This actually gives me a nice break and I can relax knowing John is being well cared for. Thank You.’
