Inpatient Unit

Springhill’s Inpatient Unit provides the highest standard of specialised, person-centred care.

Our Inpatient Unit is a 16 bedded facility where patients are admitted under the care of the medical and nursing teams for symptom control, assessment and End-of-Life care.

All patients are cared for by experienced medical and nursing staff. Each patient is assigned a named nurse, whose role is to assess each patient individually and plan their care alongside the patient and their family from admission through to discharge. They will then be involved in coordinating their care after discharge whether it be to their own home or nursing home.

Anyone over the age of 18 who is living with a life-limiting or non-curable illness can access this care.

The Inpatient Unit is a short stay facility as it is essential that we are able to provide ongoing availability of specialist palliative services for as many people as possible. We are very aware of our duty to continue with this.

Whilst being a patient on the Inpatient Unit, all patients have access to Complementary Therapies, Day Hospice, psychological support from one of our Counsellors and spiritual and pastoral care support from our Spiritual and Pastoral Care Co-ordinator.

Facilities for families and friends on our Inpatient Unit

At the Hospice we are fortunate to have a family suite comprising of two twin bedrooms with en-suite facilities which are available for families and friends to use for overnight stays. Please ask our nurses if you wish to use this service and we will be only too happy to arrange this for you.

Visiting a loved one on the Inpatient Unit
The Hospice actively welcomes family and friends and encourages participation in caring for their loved ones, if they so wish, whilst they are in the Hospice.

There are no restrictions on visiting times or how many can visit at a time, however it is noted that too many visitors can be very tiring for some patients and at these times we ask visitors for their co-operation and understanding in this matter.

There are also no restrictions with regards to children visiting, in fact we actually openly encourage this but we do ask that all children under the age of 16 are supervised at all times. There are toys, books, games and a computer available for children.

Pets are also welcome to visit; in fact we find this very therapeutic for our patients. Please feel free to discuss this with the nursing team.

If you need to speak to a staff member about a patient in our care, please ring 01706 649920 and ask for the Senior Nurse on duty.
