About us

Care of the highest standard
The Nursing and Medical staff on our Inpatient Unit have been caring for patients and supporting their families, for over 33 years. All our staff are proud to be part of the Hospice team and strive to provide the highest level of care to patients and their families.

Quality of life
Some people may think that working at a Hospice is a very sad place to be.  Although we care for patients who are at the end of their lives, working in the Hospice focuses on quality of life, and we strive to make the life that is left as good as it can possibly be.  Because quality of life is so important to us, there is a lot of laughter on the unit.   We try to find joy in every day.  “Making Every Moment Count” is not just our strapline, it is our ethos.

Development opportunities
We support our staff by ensuring they receive the training and development opportunities they need, to enable them to deliver the best care.  Many of our Nursing Assistants have gone on to do further training, and we have Nursing Associates, Assistant Practitioners and Staff Nurses who started their career with Springhill as Nursing Assistants or Volunteers. Many of our Specialist Nurses started with us as Staff Nurses on the Inpatient Unit, and now deliver specialist care on the Unit or in the Community.

Flexible working
The Nursing team on the Inpatient Unit also provide our Hospice at Home service; they are a team of skilled Nurses who visit patients in their own homes, to offer the same standard of Hospice care we deliver on the Inpatient Unit.  This offers our Nursing team variety in their roles. Staff are also able to ensure their working patterns suit their family needs.  Part time and full time staff work day or night shifts, where a variety of hours can be negotiated.  Some Nurses prefer to work shorter shifts and some prefer long days.  All requests for flexible working are considered and, in most cases, can be agreed.

Feedback from patients and their loved ones

Below are some kind words left from patients and their loved ones, about how much the care they received from Springhill Hospice meant to them.

I just wanted to say that I can never thank you enough for everything that you have done for me. Your care and kindness go beyond anything that I have ever witnessed. Never has anything been too much trouble for any of you. I just wanted you to know you are all angels. Without you all I would never have been well enough to be going home. I will miss you all so much.

Thank you all for everything that you have done for me. I have never met such kind and caring people.  You have not just nursed me, you have listened to me in my hour of need. I want you to know how much you are appreciated. When I get home, I will think about you all fondly and will miss each and every one of you. You are stars.

Thank you for the kindness, care and compassion you have shown to me during my recent illness. You have nursed me back to a place my family never thought they would see me like again.
There are no words that can express our gratitude to each and every one of you.   Nothing is never too much trouble even in the middle of the night.  Your kindness will never be forgotten by us all.  You are miracle workers.

I just wanted to thank you all for the caring, loving and dignified nursing you gave to my Mum during her time with you.
I will be forever in your debt.

Thank you to all of you. You are all amazing and your individual contribution of running of Springhill is invaluable. We cannot begin to express in words the gratitude and appreciation we have for you all and the exemplary care that was given to our Mum. We certainly would not have coped without your help. Thank you.
