Palliative Care for those with a Learning Disability

People with a learning disability should have equal and equitable provision of care including as they approach end of life. NICE guidelines say that we should ensure that care and support for people with learning disabilities is tailored to their needs and not determined solely by age or learning disability.

This workshop will enable and empower you to:

•    Discuss what palliative care is and have an understanding of palliative care needs for those with learning disabilities and how to make reasonable adjustments
•    Recognise why advance care planning is needed and the role of best interest decision
•    Gain a working knowledge of a number of useful assessment tools and increase knowledge of symptom management
•    Discuss ways of supporting those we care for and their families
•    Awareness of documentation used at end of life including the Individual plan of care for the dying

This workshop will run from 9.30am - 4pm.
