Learning Disability and Palliative Care

For all grades of staff.  This session provides an awareness of the MCA and best interest decisions, understanding the use of Proactive Indicator Guidance, providing support, how to communicate with the patient plus resources available to help.

People with a Learning Disability should have equal and equitable provision of care including as they approach end of life. NICE guideline say that we should ensure that care and support for people with LD is tailored to their needs and not determined solely by age or LD.

A highly interactive workshop facilitated by experts in Palliative Care and Learning Disability to help you to better support patients or family with Learning Disability.

  • Iinvestigate the unique health inequalities, challenges and needs of people with LD 
  • use some of the key tools to identify, improve quality of life and manage symptoms
  • gain understanding of the need for Future Planning
  • recognise the physical and emotional signs of approaching death
  • explore effective and compassionate bereavement support
  • access a range of useful resources

This workshop will run from 9.15am - 4pm.
