Learning Disability and Palliative Care

For all grades of staff.  This session provides an awareness of the MCA and best interest decisions, understanding the use of Proactive Indicator Guidance, providing support, how to communicate with the patient plus resources available to help.

People with a Learning Disability should have equal and equitable provision of care including as they approach end of life. NICE guideline say that we should ensure that care and support for people with LD is tailored to their needs and not determined solely by age or LD.
this workshop with enable and empower you to 

•    Discuss what palliative care is and have an understanding of palliative care needs for those with learning disabilities and how to make reasonable adjustments
•    Recognise why advance care planning is needed and the role of best interest decision
•    Gain a working knowledge of a number of useful assessment tools and increase knowledge of symptom management
•    Discuss ways of supporting those we care for and their families
•    Awareness of documentation used at end of life including the Individual plan of care for the dying

This workshop will run from 9am - 4pm.
