Your Hospice Needs You!
Have you got time to spare? Whether its 2 hours or 2 days, half a day or half the week, Springhill Hospice needs you. Volunteer in the shops, Springhill Tea Rooms & Gift shop, at the Hospice or in the community.
“We need help from the community we serve and we’re hoping that more and more people, from all walks of life will get involved. Volunteering is rewarding and is also a form of fundraising, our fantastic volunteers save a staggering £500,000 per year.” Said Gill Kenny, Springhill’s Volunteer Co-ordinator.
Volunteers can help at the Hospice doing everything from working in the kitchen, in day hospice, on reception or in the garden. Seven charity shops offer the opportunity to help closer to home, in Balderstone, Whitworth, Heywood, Littleborough, Rochdale Town Centre or Middleton.
“We’re crying out for help in all our shops and could really benefit from some extra help”. Commented Suzanne Ryder from Springhill’s retail team. “Its great fun, a place to make friends and you’re helping others in your community as well”.
Springhill’s Tea Room is another location where you can give support, in kitchen with general duties from washing-up to preparing salads, in the gift shop or waiting tables. The tea rooms are open 10 am til 3pm, ideal for those with young children, drop them off at school, do a shift at the tea rooms and then pick the kids up!
Equally rewarding would be volunteering for Springhill’s Community Service, providing both companionship for a patient and a well-deserved break for a relative or carer.
“Having a chat to somebody different gives a patient the opportunity to look forward to a break in their routine, particularly if they are housebound. Simply listening and having a cuppa can go a long way and make a huge difference. Please get in touch with me and I will be happy to discuss with you further" said Sharon Hancock.
“If you’ve thought about volunteering but not yet taken the plunge, we love you to get in touch. Once you’ve filled in your forms, we can chat about what you’d like to do. You’ll receive training and an induction so you know what the Hospice is all about” said Gill Kenny
