A star in the making. That's Lucas Culshaw, the fabulous fifteen year old champion fundraiser. And so delighted are Springhill Hospice with his sterling efforts, he has been nominated for this year’s Just Giving Awards which recognises the amazing contribution that fundraisers make for their charities.
Earlier this year, Lucas talked about an idea he had of organising a charity football match in memory of his uncle John Frain and to raise money for Springhill Hospice.
That hugely ambitious idea was perfectly delivered recently on a sunny afternoon at Castleton’s Mayfield Sports Centre, who supported the event by giving the facilities for free.
Raising a phenomenal £2470, the Tottington High School teenager also managed to secure a kit sponsor, match day sponsor, sponsor for the man of the match trophy, printed leaflets and also received donations for raffle and food so that as much money as possible raised went to support the work of the Hospice.
Barbara Lloyd for Springhill Hospice said, “Lucas led from the front, every step of the way with his event. For a young man he has shown real qualities of leadership and organisation and I’m sure he will go on to great things in the future. He really deserves to be recognised through the Just Giving Awards in the Under 18s category.”
She went on to say, “We would like to thank the players, all the many supporters who turned out to watch the game on the day, and Lucas' friends, family, sponsors and schoolmates who helped in so many ways to make it a success. Well done especially to Lucas for his absolutely fantastic achievement. We are all very proud of him.”
