Santa Dash or Dawdle 10th Birthday Celebrations

With summer well and truly over, the leaves turning the gardens of Springhill Hospice a wonderful, warm autumnal mix of colours and the nights closing in, the fundraising team at Springhill are delighted to launch the fun, frivolous and family friendly fundraising event that MAKES Christmas!  The Santa Dash and Dawdle is back for another year and this year it’s promising to be a real Christmas Cracker!

Last year 400 Santa’s and their four legged friends, dashed, dawdle, ambled, strolled and most definitely giggled their way around Hollingworth Lake on this 5km festive event, record numbers of participants!  As well as having a smashing time, those Santa’s presented Springhill with an amazing sack of fundraising lolly, gifting them with sponsorship of £15,500!

On Sunday 13th December at 11.00 am, the Santa’s are back and raring to go at this year’s extra special event….this year they’ll be celebrating 10 Years of the Santa Dash or Dawdle.

To mark the birthday celebrations, event organiser Pearl Benbow has come up with some little extras to keep the supporters happier. “We’re treating the juniors to a little bit of a competition – ‘Chase the Turkey or Christmas Pudding’ will see all the youngster trying to catch a running turkey or pudding, the first 50 to catch them will receive their very own baby Springy” said Pearl, adding “they’re be all the usual prizes for top senior and junior fundraisers plus best dressed Santa and new this year…..best dressed dog!”.

“Last year the people of the Borough pulled out all the stops and created a fantastic morning, we had families, individuals, teams and even whole companies getting involved, Team PDS had over 80 Santa’s.  We have already taken bookings from family groups and teams and have started to get enquiries for community groups.  It’s going to be a wonderful year….perhaps we can keep our fingers crossed for a scattering of snow to accompany the santa’s and the carols being played by Wardle Community Band to give the event that authentic Christmas feel” said Lillie Winterbottom, Springhill Hospice’s Community Fundraiser.

This year local businesses, Hollingworth Lake Visitors Centre and of course Pearl, have really stepped up a gear to put on an amazing birthday celebration event.  If you want to get involved, you can now register online www.springhill.org.uk/santa-dash-or-dawdle-2015 or pick up an application form from any of the charity shops, Springhill’s Tea Rooms, the Hospice itself or contact fundraising on 01706 641790 lillie.winterbottom@nhs.net.
