Oarsome Round Table

Springhill Hospice were celebrating more than just a successful Christmas Fair on Sunday, as the team were presented with a cheque from representatives of Rochdale's Round Table.

Robbie Robinson and John Geldard sprung a surprise visit on Hospice mascot, Springy the Frog, presenting a cheque for a whopping £5,000 from the group's July fundraising spectacular, The Dragon Boat Race at Hollingworth Lake.  The total increased even more once money donated by participants direct to Springhill Hospice was added, bringing the total amount of money raised on the day to an astonishing £5,960.75.  What a fabulous Christmas gift that is.

"For the last three years the Round Table has organised this lakeside spectacle which involves teams of 16 climbing on board to raise money for the Hospice" said Round Table President, Robbie Robinson.

Teams of amateur rowers battled it out to see who would win the Dragon Boat Champions 2016 with this year's title going to RowBoCop.  The event appeals to people on many different levels, either as a team building exercise, purely for the competition, as a great excuse to dress up and have a fun day out with friends or simply as a superb opportunity to raise money for Springhill Hospice. Added Robbie, "We are hugely proud of our achievements, not only for creating and maintaining a successful event which is accessible to all, but also as it has given us the ability to give something to such an amazing cause and over the last three years, with everyone’s support, we have raised a grand total of £23,000 for Springhill Hospice".

Of the Round Table, the event and of course the funds raised, Sarah Ford, the Hospice Income Services Manager said, "We are enormously grateful to the team at Rochdale Round Table, the event is a huge undertaking which they organise so well. They've now got it down to a fine art and provide wonderful support for the Hospice.  We're already looking forward to the Dragon Boat Race next year, which I’m sure will be another triumph for these dedicated fundraisers and an incredible continued benefit to the people in our community"

The team at Rochdale Round Table already have plans in place for next year's event when Saturday 24th June will see more teams taking on the Dragon Boat Challenge at Hollingworth Lake.  Fancy taking part?  For more information about how you can get involved contact Robbie robbie@bluepig.co.uk
