Eleven of the Borough’s finest bowling clubs took to the greens last Sunday (18th September) for charity when they competed for the coveted title of Springhill Hospice Mixed Pairs Bowling Champions 2016.
A wonderful day was had by all at the Springhill Hospice Mixed Pairs Bowling competition final at Hare Hill Bowling Club in Littleborough.
This year clubs from Healey, Wardle, Chesham, Hare Hill, Milnrow (Ladybarn), Success to the Plough, Castleton, Kirkholt, Thistleyfield, Queens Park and Shaw Comrades took in the annual challenge.
After tough quarter and semi finals, the final between Healey and Chesham, involving a few giggles and some wonderful bowling, Graham Banks and Elaine Ginnever of Healey BC took the title with Les White and Millie Banks of Chesham the runners up.
Aided by some perfect bowling weather, the beautiful greens of hosts Hare Hill Bowling Club and a lot of hard from the Hare Hill team, the final competition raised a whopping £500. Once added to the money raised by each bowling club at their qualifying competition, brings this year’s competition fundraising total to a fantastic £2100. But fundraising doesn’t stop there, Sunday’s event sponsors, The Yorkshire Bank, will also add to the coffers by match funding the money raised on the day.
“We couldn’t have asked for better weather or a better turn out. Every team has put in a great deal of time and effort into this competition, we can’t thank them enough” said Lillie Winterbottom, Springhill’s Fundraising Manager.
Adding “We’d like to thank Hare Hill who hosted this year’s competition, event sponsors, The Yorkshire Bank, Rochdale, prize sponsors Neil & Jean Montgomery and of course all the clubs for taking part. And a special thank you to the army of people who work tirelessly behind the scenes at all of these events to provide superb refreshments and tip top fundraising”.
In September 2017, Kirkholt Bowling Club will be hosting the finals. If your club would like to be in with a chance of raising Springhill’s beautiful crystal trophy, get in touch with Lillie Winterbottom email@example.com 01706 641790
