Festive lights raise money for Springhill Hospice

Local man, Paul Thomas treated his neighbours over the Christmas period to a spectacular light show with a difference.

Christmas is always a special occasion in the Thomas household, but last Christmas it shone even brighter for a special reason. Mr Thomas has always decorated the outside of his house with lights over the festive period, however Christmas 2018 marked four years since his Father passed away in Springhill Hospice. In honour of his Dad, Paul decided to go the extra mile with his light show and raise some money for the Hospice in the process.

Paul said, “I wanted to do something special in his memory, and I wanted to support the Hospice for all the care they were able to give him. People have often asked if they can make a donation to charity but I’ve never done that; this year I thought I would try and I’ve been amazed by the support we received.”

With his festive lights, Paul has received donations of over £400 for the Hospice. Supporters donated from as far as Southampton after seeing pictures of the impressive light show on Facebook.

As the word spread about the light show, its popularity grew with the local community. A steady stream of visitors began to arrive at the Thomas house to see the well talked about show.

Hospice Fundraiser, Barbara Lloyd was there for the official lights switch on, “The house looked awesome and what a wonderful way to remember a much loved Husband, Father and Granddad. We are so proud and grateful that Paul wanted to also raise money for Springhill to help us carry on caring for our patients and families at such a difficult time.”

Paul isn’t stopping there! His plans for this Christmas are already in motion, “I’m already looking round for items advertised in the sale to add to my collection, I have a feeling next Christmas will be brighter than ever.”
